Biofuels & Biomass

Peterson Control Union was established in the Netherlands in 1920 as an inspection company for grain. Since then, our organisation has diversified its inspection services and is now broadly regarded as a leading authority in the market, steering the development of national and international standards and guidelines. Our scope of activities includes inspection and logistical services throughout the biomass chain, including sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions calculations.

Logistics Services

Although the inspection of commodities remains one of our core activities, we have strengthened our position in the agricultural and energy sectors by offering comprehensive logistics services. We were among the first to identify a growing need among clients to focus efforts on their core business, and one of the ways towards achieving that focus is to outsource logistical operations. Today, we are specialists in the management of all aspects of the logistics chain.

4PL

The 4pl concept is becoming increasingly important as highly volatile fuel and freight rates show an upward trend. We offer comprehensive and cost-effective service packages catering for collateral management, tracking and tracing, the chartering of any mode of transport, cargo and cargo hold inspections, laboratory services, ship agency services, customs import/export formalities, stevedoring, storage and stock control.

Our worldwide network of laboratories has expanded in recent years and is ready to deal with the growing demand for and production of bio-fuels.

Standards

Partly due to international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol and recently the Copenhagen Convention, European policy is aimed at an increase in the use of renewable fuels in order to decrease fossil C02 emissions. In order to replace the use of fossil fuels with the use of biomass in a sustainable manner, several different standards have been designed. Most of these standards cover land related criteria, GHG emissions and traceability through the whole supply chain. Peterson Control Union can help you by verifying if the procedures are in place to meet the various standards set.

Recognition and Accreditation

Most of our solid biofuels and solid recovered fuels inspections are a part of our ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation programme (please refer to the scope of the relevant certificate to check which activity is accredited). Peterson Control Union is also a member of Fosfa and the Ethanol Association of London.
